Any mental disorder, besides affecting the thinking process, also has an emotional fall-out, which may happen due to illogical fears or feelings of persecution. Sometimes, a trauma may be the trigger for an anxiety disorder that can take place months after the event but the effect can last for years. Such disorders, besides inflicting great pain and distress on the afflicted individual, can also take a heavy toll of relationships, as friends and family may not be able to understand the reason for such disturbing behavior, or be able to cope with the huge emotional demand.

Seroquel, or Generic Quetiapine, tends to Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, and Anxiety in adults and children. Children above 10 can be given this medicine for Bipolar, but they have to be above 13 if they are being treated for Schizophrenia. This antipsychotic medicine has to be taken twice or thrice daily, with water, but can be taken without regard to meals. It is used off-label to treat Insomnia, Obsessive-Compulsive disorder, Autism, Alcoholism, Tourette syndrome and Restless legs syndrome.

Quetiapine blocks receptors of dopamine [involved with voluntary movement-sleep-moods-reward and punishment-memory-attention-motivation] and serotonin [involved with moods-sleep-muscle contraction-appetite-memory-learning] in the body. It is able to regulate the chemical functioning of the brain in a beneficial manner by blocking these neurotransmitters [both of which are associated with moods-sleep-memory].

Seroquel can help in treating Schizophrenia, Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, and Post Traumatic Stress,

When you visit the psychiatrist for a consultation, give details of your medical history, particularly mentioning if you have any ailment of the heart/liver/kidneys, if you have had a heart attack/stroke, if you suffer from seizures/epilepsy, if you have a personal/family history of diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol/triglyceride levels, any thyroid disorder, or low white blood cells. Let the doctor know if you have any allergies and give a list of all the medicines you take, including prescription-OTC-nutritional supplements-herbal products, so that the doctor can rule out the medicines that won?t work well with Seroquel. Medicines that cannot be taken with Quetiapine include: other antipsychotic drugs, antidepressants, steroids, antibiotics, anti-fungal, medications to treat cardiac problems or hypertension, anti-seizure medicines, and drugs for tuberculosis.

Seroquel may bring some side effects. The minor side effects include: dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, stomachache, nausea, vomiting, constipation, breast tenderness/discharge, blurred vision, headaches, missed periods, runny nose, or a sore throat. And the major side effects include rash, hives, itching, labored breathing, or a body parts swelling, mood changes like anxiety, agitation, restlessness, irritation, depression,
