Everyday Activities That Relieve Stress

Article by Brian Dolezal

Stress relief need not be all that complicated. In fact, there are many activities that you may already do throughout the day to relieve your stress and you don’t even realize it. And just as you may not realize what activities help you relieve stress naturally, you might be doing yourself harm by not paying enough attention to stress-reducing activities.

The truth is that there are several things that you can do to promote a stress-free lifestyle. They are not complicated and often work into your schedule naturally without you having to make many changes. Here are just a few of the ways that stress relief comes to you throughout the course of your day:

Sleep – The number one stress reducer is sleep. Sleep restores the body systems and allows you to wake fresh, rejuvenated, and ready to tackle whatever the day may bring. Without adequate sleep, your body will not function at its best and stressful situations will become magnified and could prove overwhelming. This is why it is so important to make sure that you are getting enough sleep. Try to get at least 8 hours continuous sleep each night.

Exercise – Exercise has many benefits when it comes to stress relief. Feelings of tension, aggravation and worry can all stem from a build up of adrenaline in your body. Adrenaline is released by your brain each time you encounter stress and can take some time to leave your system. Cardiovascular exercise can burn off this adrenaline and leave you feeling tension free. Exercise also stimulates the brain to produce endorphins “feel good” chemicals in the brain). This can leave you feeling great after a work out and produce a natural high that can last for days.

Nature – Spending time in nature is relaxing and has many mental and physical benefits. For one, being outside motivates you to move and enjoy your surroundings. Activities such as gardening, walking, and wildlife observation are not only physically engaging, but they also allow your mind to escape and let go of mental stress.

Massage – Taking time to get a massage once a week or once a month can not only give you something to look forward to, it can also relieve stress. A massage increases circulation to major muscle groups and relieves the tension that is built up in them. As your muscles relax, your entire body including your mind relaxes as well. Can’t afford a professional? Purchase some aromatic lotions and oils and schedule a massage therapy session with your partner. Take turns massaging each other at the end of the day and you will both wake up refreshed and ready for anything that comes your way.

You see, stress relief does not have to be complicated at all. Slow down, enjoy yourself, and be sure to pay special attention to the everyday activities that we discussed in this article. Do this and you might just be surprised by how well you feel and by how far a little dose of stress relief can go.
