Coping With Anxiety Can Be A Problem – Unless You Know How
Article by Steven Rendall
If you have never experienced an anxiety attack, you cannot know the emotional toll that it takes on your body. Coping with anxiety is a problem many in our society need to do. This problem is so widespread and includes people from every walk of life. The first step in learning to deal with this is to admit to yourself that you have a problem and acknowledge the fact that you have a social anxiety problem that needs to be treated. There is nothing to be ashamed of in having this disorder. Unfortunately many people try to hide their condition and do not seek help until it has truly become a problem. This is particularly true in young teenagers.
Coping with anxiety can seem overwhelming to some people and in most cases they require some psychological counselling and possibly medication to help reduce the symptoms. Your psychologist, or other health care worker, will first decide if you are just generally an anxious person or if there is something specific that will trigger your anxiety and they will work on that with you. Some people have an irrational fear of certain places or animals which can trigger an anxiety attack. You must first, as stated, acknowledge this fear and then try to work through this fear. Slowly seeking out that particular fear may help you to accept the idea that there is nothing to fear. This method, along with medication administered by your health care professional, can aid in overcoming your anxiety.
Find out all you can about your specific anxiety problem and if needed, go to a support group. If you are a business person and need to speak in front of others, this can bring on an attack. One way of learning to cope with your anxiety is to picture yourself standing in front of a group speaking clearly and appearing quite self-confident. Continuing this type of therapy, no matter what your particular fear, can truly help in coping with anxiety. If you see yourself calm, self-confident and extremely comfortable, your brain will believe this to be true and you may surprise yourself in how well you do. Learn about your problem and then take steps correct it. Most importantly, believe in yourself.
